Liberty Investment Group encourages students to build careers in the automotive sector

DUBAI: National students in the UAE are showing an increasing interest in career opportunities in specialized sectors such as automobiles, travel & tourism and logistics, to gain a foothold in niche industries.

This encouraging new trend was highlighted by Liberty Automobiles Co., a leading player in the region’s automotive sector and a member company of the Dubai-based Liberty Investment Company, which recently concluded its summer training program for young national students.

The company said that the training, which is in its eighth year, was part of Liberty’s commitment to give UAE national students a deeper insight and hands-on experience in all facets of working in an automobile dealership. Over a two-month-long internship, students received training in activities such as automobile sales, maintenance, workshop management, parts inventory system and industry-specific administrative functions.

Commenting on the changing employment scenario, Tayeb Al Rais, Managing Director, Liberty Automobiles Co., said: “This trend which sees nationals moving away from traditionally popular industry segments such as government, banking and real estate clearly demonstrates a growing awareness among UAE students about opportunities available outside of the conventional sectors.”

Al Rais added that the program was in line with Liberty’s commitment to nurture local talent and build future leaders of the society. “Already, as a result of the government’s keen efforts, we are witnessing the emergence of a highly skilled generation of UAE nationals who are utilizing their academic training to compete in the job sector,” he stated.

Liberty’s initiative has been welcomed by the UAE government’s National Human Resources Development and Employment Authority (Tanmia) with Dr. Jamal Ibrahim Al Haj, Tanmia Head for Sharjah & Northern Emirates, visiting the Liberty Automobiles facilities. After inspecting the training schedule, he expressed his appreciation for the company’s initiative to conduct regular training programs for young nationals and prepare them for positions in the automobile industry.

“We welcome all initiatives that can further enhance the work experience of the UAE students and the role of the corporate sector is very important in this regard,” Al Haj explained. “Liberty’s effort to train national students is commendable, and we are confident that students will derive great benefit by training in a large company. They will also be able to apply that experience to easily tackle work-related challenges in the future.”

Mohamed Bushelaibi, Group Personnel Manager, Liberty Investment Company, pointed out that the Liberty training programs were tailored by experts to make it an educational and enjoyable experience for the trainees. Regular advice from supervisors assigned to monitor their progress and impart guidance further helped them to learn while working, he added.

“After completing the internship program, the students trained by us have shown exceptional understanding of career trends and an ability to participate as responsible employees in their work,” Bushelaibi said. “I hope more corporates take the initiative like us to invest in training young nationals and encourage them to take up responsible positions.”

Among the young nationals who worked with Liberty Automobiles during the internship, Sultan Rashed Al Suwaidi, who was posted in the spare parts division, described the training program as a refreshing, new educational experience. “This is my first summer internship but it helped me to understand the operations of a large company such as Liberty Automobiles,” Al Suwaidi said. “The training in the spare parts division helped me to learn how to interact with customers and satisfy their requirements.”

Another intern, Hisham Hassan Ahmed Al Hosany, who worked as a trainee mechanic, said that he chose this career direction due to his fascination with automobiles. “Working alongside some of my more experienced colleagues made me appreciate their efforts and recognize their important contribution in a company’s success,” he pointed out.
